Living Through a Renovation
Renovating your home will be one of the most rewarding yet stressful events you may experience. J Brickwood Building is committed to ensuring that your renovating experience is as smooth as possible providing you with a high quality renovation which you will be proud to call your home.
This article has been put together after many years of experience as both a builder and living through the renovation process. Being prepared is half the battle.
Preparing for Renovation: What to expect.
- Work usually commences at 7am and concludes between 3:30pm and 5pm up to 6 days per week. These hours will be dependent on the stage of the renovation and specific Council regulations.
- It is a good idea to let your neighbours know what date you will be commencing renovations. As part of our service we can provide each of your adjoining neighbours with information describing what can be expected from your renovation, for example noise and machinery, as well as contact numbers should they have any concerns along the way. Remember your neighbours will be there long after we have finished your job, so it is a good idea to keep them informed.
- For your own peace of mind it is best to remove all sentimental and valuable items from the demolition and renovation site prior to renovation commencement. Brickwood Building will take all care care but no responsibility for your belongings.
During Renovation
- The builder will oversee all work required throughout the renovation or addition, but not necessarily complete all manual labour himself.
- Up to 15 different trades can be involved in a renovation or addition. Your family will encounter a number of new faces each day over the period of your contract. It is expected that all contractors introduce themselves when they begin on your renovation and conduct themselves in a professional manner.
- Throughout your renovation or addition please expect dust to form everywhere, even in the places you do not expect. A door is not always a barrier to dust.
- At different stages throughout your renovation you will encounter tools and building waste throughout the renovation site. Brickwood Building and associated contractors always do our best to limit the disruption to your normal family routines.
- Heavy machinery and hand tools used in renovations can be very noisy; this is unavoidable.
- Ensure all your vehicles are removed from your driveway prior to work commencing each day.
- Power and water may be disrupted at various times throughout the course of your renovation. Brickwood Building will give notice prior to any disruption and give an estimated time when power or water will be restored.
- We understand that children will be fascinated by the work we are doing in your home. With our building experience in child care centres we are, at all times vigilant of our surroundings to reduce the risk to children. However, we can not take responsibility for the supervision of your children and ask that you supervise your children at all times.
